“The Starry Skies Above Me” limited edition 3 colour reduction linoprint of Amanita Muscaria / Fly Agaric mushroom.
I spent the day looking for and finding Amanita Muscaria in a woods near my studio in Carmarthenshire. Later that afternoon I was having a nap and this image came to me from the mushrooms themselves. The title comes from the Kant quote: “Two things fill the mind with ever new and increasing admiration and awe, the more often and steadily we reflect upon them: the starry sky above me and the moral law within me.”
This is a short-run edition strictly limited to 9 copies, that is, there are only 9 copies in the world and will never be any more. Every print will have tiny variations, being printed by hand: this is part of the deal with buying an original artwork. They are currently drying and will be sent out early November.
This is a reduction print, printed in two layers: the first was the pthalo blue tint gradient sky, and the red and brown were printed a week later once the sky was dry. It’s quite a process!
Printed onto thick Fabriano art paper. All vegan materials. Signed, numbered and dated. Printed in my studio on a Rollaco Cachet etching press in 2022.
Print size approx 20 x 15cm; paper size approx 38 x 28cm. Unmounted, carefully wrapped in home-compostable cellophane and posted flat, insured delivery. Please give an address where this item can be signed for. Free postage.
