This is an original one-off mixed-media painting made on canvas board. It’s a combination of acrylic paint, gilding wax, wax pencil, oil stick, oil paints.
A loosely-rendered red kite, famous bird of prey of West Wales, is perched onto a smeared and distorted background. Other versions of the raptor’s image can be seen partially in the background, scraped off and smudged in a palimpsest. There’s also a mostly-obscured stylised crow in the top left. In the bottom right another stylised crow looks up at the kite.
The gilding wax in the background lends a rich glow that glitters as it catches the light.
The work is approx 40.5 x 50.5cm and is posted flat and unmounted, wrapped in glassene paper and securely packed, ready for framing.
